Education and Training

W.G. Clark Construction Co. is a strong supporter of the Construction Industry Training Council’s (CITC) carpentry apprenticeship and laborer programs. These four-year and two-year programs are designed to produce a skilled workforce for the construction industry. Classes are held one night per week, with tuition paid by W.G. Clark. We are proud that some of W.G. Clark’s former CITC graduates now have become instructors for CITC.

We encourage all W.G. Clark employees to take advantage of the opportunity to build a career with our company and to continue their personal development. In addition to training through CITC, our company sponsors a variety of training programs, both internal and external, that help our staff both to learn new skills and improve existing ones. In addition, W.G. Clark’s Education Committee both identifies areas of information that should be communicated to employees through classes and identifies employees that should receive specific training. W.G. Clark offers selected training and educational opportunities in Spanish for our craft employees for whom English is a second language.

We believe strongly in mentoring in all parts of our organization. Senior employees work with others on a one-on-one basis to provide specialized training for those who need assistance in learning specific job-related techniques or computer skills. We encourage people both to seek help and to voluntarily help one another, and mentoring can take place at any level between peers or with supervisors working with their employees.

Other educational programs regularly supported by our firm include Associated General Contractors classes and training, Associated Builders and Contractors classes and seminars, SMART Education Center classes, community college/university courses, and special group training sessions. Regular project manager/superintendent/foremen meetings provide opportunities both for the exchange of information and the development of new approaches to challenges.

For external continuing education courses, financial support varies and depends on the relevance of the education to a person’s work at W.G. Clark, budget constraints, and management approval. Upon approval from W.G. Clark, outside training programs are reimbursed 100% by the firm or are sometimes paid in advance by the firm.
