Career Paths
Project Management Path
At any given time, we are building a variety of projects, typically ranging from about $2,000,000 to over $30,000,000, in the greater Puget Sound area. This broad mix of work provides the opportunity for our new hires to work on projects of diverse type, size and scope and to take on a significant role in the management of smaller projects early in their careers.
Our senior project managers work closely with our new hires, providing leadership and insight into the various aspects of project management, while valuing high-energy, ambitious self-starters who enjoy taking on challenges and prefer working independently under broad guidance. The majority of our project management staff have four-year Construction Management degrees from universities within our state, which have provided W.G. Clark with most of our interns over the years.
For those new hires who join us as student interns, we offer the opportunity to quickly put classroom skills into practice in the real world of construction. At W.G. Clark, you will be able to take on significant project responsibilities much earlier than in many other firms. We recognize that people learn best by doing, and we provide the opportunity for our employees to develop quickly and to “own” their job.
Field Supervision Path
A significant number of W.G. Clark’s top field managers began their careers here as carpenters or carpenter apprentices, working their way through the ranks. A significant number have come through the Construction Industry Training Council (CITC) program. Our field workforce currently includes laborers, carpenters, welders, field engineers, foremen, safety and quality specialists, and superintendents.
Our primary method of promotion is from within. We identify tomorrow’s leaders and make sure they receive the necessary training to succeed as they move up within our organization. For example, a program called the Leadership Group is providing a group of foremen with the specific skills they will need to become superintendents. See the Education and Training section for additional information about the various programs we sponsor.
