W.G. Clark Construction has developed what has come to be recognized both regionally and nationally as an outstanding safety and health program for our personnel, resulting in one of the best safety records in the country among contractors of our size. Our firm is a past national winner of the Associated General Contractors’ Excellence in Safety Award for firms with over 200,000 worker hours per year.
At W.G. Clark, we consider the safety of all employees on our jobsites the equal of productivity and quality. Our workforce is trained continually in safety rules and procedures to help make sure that all of us work safely and can go home to our families each day. W.G. Clark safety program includes:
- Daily warm-up and stretching regimen for all craft workers.
- Modified duty/early return to work.
- Safety recognition program — in which employees earn points toward the “purchase” of recreational and household family gifts.
- Safe Employee of the Year — elected annually by peers.
- Extensive new hire training process and 60-day reorientation.
- Partnering with subcontractors through phased safety process for a safe and productive site.
- Involving employee families with the safety program through child safety awareness and by promoting overall health and wellness (stress reduction, exercise and nutrition).
- Bi-lingual safety training in English and Spanish.
- Specific safety training for subcontractors, when required.
Our field personnel roster starts with a core group of roughly 100 carpenters and laborers, most of whom have been with the company over five years, and many over ten years. These individuals are thoroughly ingrained with the Clark safety attitude. This stable group, which identifies with the company’s long-term goals, sets the tone on our jobsites. They are the key to our success in reducing accidents and the many hardships, both financial and physical, that can result from them. If an accident does occur, our proactive claims management program dramatically reduces the time our employees would be unable to work.
